Companies that follow ESG principles commit to reducing environmental harm, caring for their employees and customers, and operating transparently and ethically.
The concept of ESG was first introduced in a 2004 United Nations report titled “Who Cares Wins.” Since then, the global business community has increasingly recognized that its mission goes beyond profit — it also includes addressing environmental and social challenges.
It should be noted that more than 90% of companies in the S&P 500 list publish ESG reports.
S&P 500 is a list of 500 largest US companies, including such world leaders as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla. For them, ESG principles have already become the norm.
In Uzbekistan, Presidential Decree No. 16, issued on January 30, 2025, approved the State Program for the Implementation of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy during the "Year of environmental protection and the green economy". The decree outlines the country’s transition to a "green" economy by 2030, identifying ESG as a key tool in this process.
ESG represents sustainable, reliable and long-term profit generation with respect for nature. And these principles are not exclusive to large corporations — even small businesses can begin with simple steps.
