"The contest assessed young people’s knowledge on ecology, environmental protection, climate change, water scarcity, biodiversity conservation, and other pressing environmental challenges," said Zarrina Abdullaeva, head of the department at the Ministry of Ecology. "It is encouraging to see that the younger generation possesses a solid foundation of knowledge and practical skills in this area. Participants provided excellent answers to even the most complex questions and proposed a number of important solutions to ecological problems."
In the first stage, teams presented their initiatives addressing environmental issues specific to their regions. The second stage tested their knowledge on topics crucial for the country and region, such as climate change, pollution, water shortages, global warming, ozone layer depletion and more. Participants also shared innovative ideas and potential solutions.
The third stage focused on eco-friendly products made from recycled materials. Notable entries included an eco-fountain created by the team from Khorezm region, artworks made from tires and other materials by the team from the Republic of Karakalpakstan and elegant outfits made from plastic bags and handmade children's toys presented by the Namangan region team — all of which left a strong impression on participants and guests alike.
During the final stage, each team showcased video clips highlighting the work of their local environmental councils.
As a result of the competition: 1st place went to the Samarkand region team, 2nd place was awarded to the Khorezm region, and 3rd place was shared between the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Fergana region teams.
"For us, the most important aspect was gaining new knowledge and reinforcing what we already knew. During the competition, we learned a great deal from other teams, exchanged experiences, and gained insight into the environmental conditions in different parts of the country. Most importantly, we laid out plans for tackling the environmental problems that affect not just our region but the entire nation," said Feruzjon Toshpulatov, a participant from the Samarkand region and head of the local Youth Ecological Council.
Events like these help raise ecological awareness and environmental culture among young people, contribute to the preservation of biodiversity, conservation of natural resources, prevention of air pollution, waste sorting and increased public knowledge of ecological issues.
The “Eco-Camp 2025” program is ongoing.
