The participants were welcomed with a ceremonial reception at the Nukus railway station, after which they joined the Festival of Friendship of Peoples, held at Karakalpak State University under the motto “We are children of one family.” The event served as a symbol of interethnic unity, cultural diversity, and a shared commitment to protecting the environment.
As part of the campaign, the youth visited the Savitsky State Art Museum and traveled to Muynak under the framework of the “The Aral is ours” (Orol bizniki) project. There, they explored the Museum of the Aral Sea History, the famous ship graveyard, and memorial complexes that serve as powerful reminders of the region’s environmental crisis.
A key focus of the campaign was on hands-on environmental efforts. As part of the nationwide “Yashil Makon” initiative, students took part in ecological projects such as AralForest and GreenAralSea, planting salt- and drought-resistant vegetation. These efforts are aimed at restoring ecosystems and combating desertification in the Aral Sea region.
Additionally, participants prepared presentations on environmental issues, climate change, and sustainable tourism. They also attended training sessions and seminars, exchanged experiences, and shared proposals to improve the region’s ecological situation.
The “Train to the Aral” project marks a significant step in the development of eco-tourism in Uzbekistan. It successfully combines environmental action with cultural education, engaging youth in the exploration and preservation of the unique Aral Sea region. The campaign not only raises awareness of the Aral Sea’s challenges but also fosters a new generation of environmentally conscious and socially active citizens.
