A case of cruelty towards a desert monitor has been investigated

The incident was promptly investigated by the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Bukhara Region, in cooperation with the regional prosecutor’s office and law enforcement agencies. It was established that the incident took place in the Jondor district and was initiated by a citizen identified as G.G. Authorities confirmed that the animal was later released back into the wild.
Note: The Central Asian desert monitor is a vulnerable and endangered subspecies, listed in the Red Data Book of Uzbekistan and in Appendix I of the CITES Convention.
For cruelty to an animal, the regional Department of Internal Affairs filed an official report against the offender under Part 1, Article 111 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility Uzbekistan. Preliminary investigation procedures are currently underway.
