The 12-week program includes training modules on programming, marketing, business skills and presentation skills. Girls learn to solve socially significant problems using technology and create innovative mobile applications in areas related to the Sustainable Development Goals.
“The Technovation Girls program annually attracts hundreds of girls into the technology field, and the ministry will always support educational and social initiatives that will help girls become interested in the STEM field and gain the skills to master promising professions of the 21st century. Technovation is especially relevant in 2024, which was declared by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan as “The Year of Support for Youth and Business,” noted Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shahlo Turdikulova.
In 2024, as part of the partnership, Yandex specialists will become mentors for teams from all regions of Uzbekistan. In 3 months, with the help of mentors, each team must create a socially oriented mobile application, write a business plan for the project and shoot a video about the project, as well as present their project in the final of the competition.
Teams from Uzbekistan are developing mobile applications on topics such as: using AI (artificial intelligence) to reduce bullying and discrimination, robot prototypes to help during earthquakes, projects to reduce gender inequality, reduce CO2 emissions, planting trees, monitoring air quality, search the best universities and grants, mental health, part-time work for women, and other topics.
In 2023, at the Technovation international finals in Silicon Valley (USA), the Tecnas team from Uzbekistan, with a VR laboratory application for schools, reached the finals of the international competition for the first time, becoming one of the top 12 finalist teams out of more than 2,500 teams from all over world, and won the Social Impact Award (this is an award for the best Technovation project that contributes to solving social problems).
