The State Reserve "Kyzylkum"

The territory of the State Reserve "Kyzylkum" is situated at an elevation ranging from 150 to 180 meters above sea level. It encompasses a small portion of the river plain and the Southwest Kyzylkum Desert within the average flow of the Amu Darya. The total area of the reserve is 10,311 hectares, with 8,844 hectares in the Tuprokkalinsky district of the Khorezm region and 1,467 hectares in the Romitan district of the Bukhara region. The Kyzylkum Desert zone covers 7,134 hectares of the area, while 3,177 hectares are occupied by the riparian zone along the Amu Darya valley.
Natural conditions: The climate of the Kyzylkum State Reserve is sharply continental, with summer temperatures reaching up to +47 degrees Celsius and dropping to -25 degrees Celsius in winter. Precipitation is mainly observed in the spring. Outside the reserve's territory, typical chestnut soils are prevalent.
Flora: In the Kyzylkum State Reserve, 230 plant species have been identified, including 4 species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Fauna: Currently, the reserve is home to 37 species of vertebrate mammals, 266 bird species, 29 reptile species, 2 amphibian species, and 25 fish species. Eight mammal species, 32 bird species, three reptile species, and eight fish species are listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The reserve borders Turkmenistan and is located 220 km from Urgench and 250 km from Bukhara. The nearest settlements are the village of Kizil Ravot, located 5 km to the east, and the village of Tuprokka in the Khorezm region, situated 15 km to the northwest.

The administrative building of the reserve is located in the village of Kyzyl Ravat in the Romitan district of the Bukhara region.
