The Kyzylkum mountain sheep (argali) or Severtsov's argali is a rare endemic subspecies of mountain sheep living in the extreme north-western spurs of the Pamir-Alai mountain system and the lowlands of the Kyzylkum desert. It is included in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature as a vulnerable, declining subspecies. The total population is 1,800-2,000 individuals.
Severtsov's rams are known for their powerful horns, the length of which in males can reach up to one metre, as well as the ability to move easily on steep and rocky slopes. During the mating season, males stage spectacular duels, clashing their horns with such force that the sound of the blow can be heard for hundreds of metres around.
