Nightlife of the Turkestan Lynx

A camera trap in the Hissar State Nature Reserve, operating under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, has captured rare nighttime footage of the elusive Turkestan lynx.

The Turkestan lynx is a vulnerable, declining, mosaically distributed subspeciesn. It is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and Appendix II of CITES. In the reserve, it is found in the areas of Gelon, Miraki, Tankhozardarya, and Kyzylsuv.
Background: The Hissar State Nature Reserve was established in 1983. It is located in the southern part of the Hissar Range in Kashkadarya region, at elevations ranging from 1,750 to 4,349 meters above sea level. It borders Surkhandarya region to the southeast and Tajikistan to the north.
The reserve is home to 276 species of invertebrates and vertebrate animals. Eight of this species are listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
